1．题材广泛
新闻体裁广泛，涉及国际政治、外交、军事、贸易、科技、工业、农业、文化、教育、体育等，甚至各种天灾人祸。专四这五年的新闻话题分为政治，占45%，经济，占25%，灾难，占25%，其他话题仅占5%左右。
2．文体风格独特

1．全神贯注理解新闻的第一句话，尽快锁定新闻大概内容。
如考试，听新闻英语前，要养成“审题”的习惯，即先看题目和选项内容。
2．做笔记，重视新闻中的数字。
新闻中的数字（包括时间、日期等）一旦出现，则显示其重要性，必须记录。同时学会记录重要的新闻词汇（名词和动词）。
